For 15 years, Albert Liu has worked as an IP-based entrepreneur with experience in many aspects of start-ups: angel and private equity funding, business planning, patent/trademark, product and brand development, sales/marketing, regulatory, consumer affairs, growth and exit strategies.

 

As Founder and Chairman for XEP, Inc., Liu developed patent-pending skin-based caffeine delivery system. He brought together an angel investor group to support strategic launch and commercialization of product. Today, the product is sold in major national retailers.

 

Liu’s experience in healthcare included Pong Research where he commercialized IP developed by a UCLA physicist to address a major public health concern. At CRI, Liu partnered with a leading pharmacist to create patented OTC formulation and sold international rights to a public pharmaceutical company.

 

Over his career, Liu has founded, commercialized and sold multiple intellectual properties in the healthcare, IT, entertainment and consumer lifestyle industries. He has been featured in Wired, CNN, Wall Street Journal and the New York Times. He was named Top Start-Up - TIE 50 Awards 2014.

 

Liu serves on multiple committees and as advisors for educational such as University of California, San Diego incubators and business accelerators. He received his PhD from Humanities Center, The Johns Hopkins University and his BA from the University of California Berkeley.
