Specifically, Mario skillfully bridges the gap between medical and healthcare clients and a wide range of technical and engineering, product development, production, marketing, and regulatory teams to drive the launch of new solutions in markets worldwide.
As the Vice President of Educational Strategy of PER Global, Mario analyzed the new market trends, created and implemented a new business strategy to expand into global markets, identified new customers and drove successful initiatives. He led the team to increase the number of projects by +50% and grew revenue by +100% YOY.
As the Vice President of Sales & Business Development of Haymarket Media Group’s Healthcare Solutions business, Mario identified and advanced opportunities to partner with pharmaceutical and biotech clients, He developed impactful and strategic content solutions for brand marketing, medical affairs, and scientific communications.
As Derma Sciences' Vice President of International Business Development for Asia-Pacific and Latin America from 2013 to 2016, Mario's successes included the growth of the Japan business from zero to $1 million+ in two years. He built distributor channels across Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, Taiwan, Uruguay, and more, driving a 70% increase in bottom-line contribution. His global strategy positioned the company for 1000% projected revenue growth over the next two years, creating the first profitable business unit in the company's 30-year history.
Before joining Derma Sciences, Mario was Senior Director of Marketing and Business Development with FXI, where he catapulted division revenue from $4 million to $25 million in five years with the development and launch of a blockbuster new medical device product and entry into new market segments winning the Product Innovation Team of the Year Award.
In just one year as Global Marketing Manager, Capital & Rental with Hill-Rom, Mario was able to reverse several years of flat sales and drive double-digit revenue growth by defining and implementing new market strategies for the wound care product portfolio.
From 2004 to 2007, Mario served as Global Medical Marketing Manager for Cialis in a joint venture between Lilly and ICOS where he launched Cialis to a $1.5 billion flagship product in four years, unseating Levitra as the entrenched competitor and capturing the number-two market position with more than 30% share.
Earlier in his career, Mario was Global Marketing Manager for Convatec Wound and Skin Care, a division of Bristol-Myers Squibb. There he delivered a 35% revenue increase by rebranding three products, creating a family of products sold as a multi-product system. Before that he was International Product Manager for the Cardiovascular division, where he drove 55% product growth.
Prior to joining Convatec, Mario was Regional Business Manager with Roche and began his career as a Senior Consultant with Lab-System Consulting in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Mario holds an MBA from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill; a Master of Science degree in Marketing from ESPM in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; and a Bachelor in Sciences degree from the Navy Military Academy in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He speaks three languages: English, Portuguese, and Spanish. Mario also graduated as a firefighter from the Fire Academy in New Jersey and served as volunteer firefighter with Engine 19 and Engine 24.
